New Synagogue Berlin - Centrum Judaicum

Completed in 1866 as the largest synagogue in Germany, the Neue Synagoge's Moorish Revival architecture and gilded dome made it one of Berlin's grandest religious buildings, and it was famously saved from Kristallnacht destruction in 1938 by a local police officer who intervened, though it was later damaged by Allied bombing. Only the façade and dome were rebuilt after reunification; the Centrum Judaicum inside now functions as a museum documenting Berlin's prewar Jewish community and the building's own layered history, though as some reviewers note, the dome itself isn't always open to visitors.

Sitting in the Scheunenviertel, a neighborhood still dotted with reminders of its former Jewish quarter, it's a worthwhile stop for anyone tracing Berlin's Jewish history through Mitte. Note that opening hours can be limited, including closures on Saturdays.
