Diagonal Mar i el Front Marítim del Poblenou

Free

This is one of Barcelona's newest districts, developed largely after the 2004 Forum of Cultures on reclaimed industrial land at the northeastern edge of the city, where Avinguda Diagonal finally meets the sea. It's dominated by contemporary architecture — the Diagonal Mar shopping center, high-rise apartment towers, the Forum's vast paved esplanade, and convention facilities — giving it a distinctly modern, somewhat sterile feel compared to Barcelona's historic core. The Parc del Fòrum and adjacent Parc Diagonal Mar offer genuine green and waterfront space, including a man-made lake and a large solar panel canopy structure. It's more useful as a functional area for shopping, conferences, or beach access at its quieter northern beaches than as a sightseeing destination.
