Full description

On Montjuïc, the Catalan Museum of Archaeology traces the region's past from prehistory through the Roman conquest of Iberia, with rotating temporary exhibitions — visitors mention a well-received one on Sardinia — supplementing the permanent galleries. A perfect culture score and 4.5-star rating from over 2,500 reviews reflect real depth, and a standout VR reconstruction of Roman Tarragona gives the Roman galleries an unusually immersive edge for a museum of this size.

At roughly 90 minutes, it needs a proper visit to do justice to the range of material on display, from glasswork to full excavated rooms. It's best suited to visitors with a genuine interest in ancient history rather than those wanting a quick Montjuïc stop.

Reviews

The museum is very nice. Lots to see across different rooms. The temporary exhibition about Sardinia was very interesting too. Especially enjoyed the glass collection and the tombs’ models. I bought tickets online but still had to queue to get a ticket - that part and the customer service could be improved.
