Designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch and completed in 1900, Casa Amatller blends Flemish gable lines with Catalan decorative flourishes, standing directly beside Gaudí's Casa Batlló on the stretch of Passeig de Gràcia known as the Illa de la Discòrdia, or Block of Discord, where three rival Modernista architects built showcase houses within a few years of one another. The building was the home of chocolate manufacturer Antoni Amatller, and the self-guided tour covers his life alongside the architecture, including original furniture and the family's photography collection. Reviewers particularly single out the ornate lift and gargoyle details as highlights often missed on a quick pass of the exterior. With a smaller review base than its famous neighbors, it draws a more measured crowd better suited to lingering over details.

"I really liked the self guided tour of this house. The house had an interesting owner and history, with a lot of original furniture inside. You don't get to see the entire house but enough of it that it was very worthwhile to see. I would recommend doing this tour if you like viewing historical homes."
