Food
Cal Pep runs almost entirely on counter seating, no reservations, and a menu dictated by whatever's freshest that day, and reviewers who've eaten around the world still rank it among their best dining experiences. At 4.4 stars from over 3,100 reviews and a must-see score of 98, it has genuine institution status reflected in its high culture and local scores — regulars return again and again, sometimes multiple times in a single trip. The wait can run long since tables aren't held, but that queue has become part of the experience for many visitors. It's best suited to travellers happy to wait for a stool at the counter rather than book ahead.

What people say
"We ended up coming here three times during our stay in Barcelona—and that says everything. Each time we didn’t make a reservation, so we had to wait in line for quite a while, but it was absolutely worth it. The nice touch is that while you’re waiting, you can grab a glass of wine or a beer, which definitely makes the time pass more pleasantly. Sitting at the counter is an experience in itself—you get a front-row view of the chefs in action, and the whole vibe feels more relaxed and authentic. The team clearly knows what they’re doing. Even from behind the counter, the service is efficient, confident, and high quality. Food-wise—don’t miss the scallops with foie gras and definitely try the squid with chickpeas. Both were outstanding. Highly recommend!"
