Step inside the Votive Church, a neo-Gothic icon rising on twin spires above Alsergrund. Admire the stained glass and Gothic interior, then browse the small museum of liturgical objects.

📖

Full description

The Votivkirche is one of Vienna's finest examples of neo-Gothic architecture, completed in 1879, its twin spires visible from a distance. Inside, visitors find stained-glass windows that flood the interior with light, and a museum displaying liturgical objects.

Reviewers often stumble upon it while walking near City Hall and are pleased they went in. The church has also hosted light shows, which reviewers describe in glowing terms.

A visit takes about 20 minutes with little walking, and the church keeps shorter opening hours on Saturdays and is closed on Mondays.

Reviews

A neo-Gothic church built to thank God for saving the Emperor of Austria from an assassination. Built in the style of a French cathedral, it's impressive from both inside and out. Church features 78 stunning neo-Gothic stained glass windows. A gorgeous, photo-worthy landmark, highly recommended. Hop on hop off tour…
