Hundertwasser House

4.5 ·

Seek out Hundertwasser House, the colourful apartment block that looks nothing like the rest of Vienna. Circle it from the street, spot the trees on its balconies and roof, and photograph its uneven, patchwork facade.

📖

Full description

Hundertwasser House is a residential building that breaks every rule of the surrounding city: wavy lines, mismatched colours, uneven floors and trees growing from balconies and the roof. People live there, so it can only be viewed from the outside.

Reviewers note that the immediate surroundings are mostly food stops and souvenir shops, with a fountain and a small shopping area nearby, and that going after the shops close means fewer crowds. It rewards sunny weather, when the colours show best, and takes about twenty minutes to see.
