Cross to Mestre and step into Museo M9, a thoroughly modern museum on Italy's 20th century. Move through interactive, technology-rich exhibits on work, family life and the changing city.
Full description
Museo M9 in Mestre is a newly built museum that uses hi-tech displays to explore how Italian life changed in the 20th century, covering family and working life, technology and urbanization. Reviewers praise the way its social, political, economic and industrial history is presented, and note an interactive area where children can play and learn.
Because it sits on the mainland rather than in the lagoon, it feels well off the usual tourist circuit. Plan around 75 minutes, and remember it is closed on Mondays.
