Torre de la Plata

3.9 ·

Hunt down Torre de la Plata, the lesser-known octagonal sibling of Seville's famous Torre del Oro. Find it on Calle Santander and compare its eight-sided form with the riverside tower nearby.

📖

Full description

Torre de la Plata is a medieval defensive tower on Calle Santander in the Casco Antiguo, dating from the same period as the Torre del Oro but with eight sides rather than twelve. It once formed part of the fortifications near the river and survives today in an awkward setting, squeezed between a contemporary building and a parking area.

Reviewers describe it as much less known than its famous neighbour, about 150 metres away, and a little sad in its surroundings. It is an outdoor stop with open access at all hours, taking around 15 minutes to see.

Reviews

I feel sorry for the tower. It is located only 150 meters from the famous Torre del Oro. But it is hidden between a modern building and a parking lot. It is not as big as the Torre del Oro but there is a short section of the old city walls connected to it.
