📖

Full description

Foro Italico is a sprawling sports complex built in the 1930s under Mussolini, its grand marble stadiums and avenues of classical statues making it as much an architectural landmark as a functioning venue. The complex includes the Stadio dei Marmi, the Stadio Olimpico, and the tennis courts that host the Italian Open each spring, drawing large crowds during the tournament.

Visitors describe it as an atmospheric place to wander even outside event days, with the Fascist-era design giving it a distinctly different character from Rome's ancient ruins. Its combination of sport, history, and architecture makes it a standout stop for visitors interested in any of the three.

💡

Good to know

  • Visit outside Italian Open season for a quieter, free wander through the complex
  • go in the morning to avoid the day's heat, since there's little shade
  • plan extra time if attending during the tennis tournament, as crowds and food options require it.

Reviews

Attended for the Italian Open tennis, what a brilliant complex. Would highly recommend for any fans of tennis, this is a must. Loads of food and drink options along with shopping within the fan village. Easy access to all the field courts to watch practice sessions or matches. Staff were really helpful in centre court…
