Enter the Old Jewish Cemetery, a compact and atmospheric burial ground in Prague's Jewish Quarter. Wander among thousands of weathered tombstones packed closely together, and look for the grave of Judah Loew ben Bezalel.

📖

Full description

Tucked inside the Jewish Quarter in Staré Město, the Old Jewish Cemetery is packed with around 12,000 visible tombstones, though many more people are buried beneath them in layered graves. The resting place of scholar and teacher Judah Loew ben Bezalel is among its most noted.

Reviewers describe a park-like, atmospheric space of old graves, statues and mausoleums, surrounded by modern buildings yet noticeably quiet inside its walls. It can be explored independently or as part of a Jewish Quarter visit, and booking is recommended.

Allow about 45 minutes; the cemetery is closed on Saturdays.

Reviews

Beautiful, park like cemetery with old graves, beautiful statues, mausoleums right in the middle of the city. You won't even notice that a busy city life is going on right outside the walls of the cemetery. The cemetery is easy to reach by subway (red line), bus and tram. All of these stop at the flora shopping center…
