Jan Hus monument

4.6 ·

Stand before the Jan Hus Monument, the sculptural centrepiece of Old Town Square. Circle the bronze and stone memorial to take in its figures, then enjoy the historic facades around it.

📖

Full description

Sculpted by Ladislav Šaloun and unveiled in 1915 on the 500th anniversary of Hus's death, this large memorial stands at the centre of Old Town Square. Hus criticised abuses within the medieval Church and was burned at the stake in 1415; the sculpture commemorates him as a national and religious symbol.

Up close the bronze figures and stone base reward a slow look, and the surrounding colourful facades frame it well. It is open at all hours, free, and easily combined with the rest of the square.

Reviews

In the middle of old town square. Nice atmosphere and a beautiful statue. Definitely recommend to come here to eat food, go to the bridge and much more.
