Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

4.6 ·

Visit the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a monumental Vinohrady church that looks strikingly modern for a building from 1932. Look inside at the gilded statues and white marble altar, then browse the square outside.

📖

Full description

The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, opened in 1932 on Náměstí Jiřího z Poděbrad in Vinohrady, looks modernist at first glance and is regarded as one of the largest churches in the Czech Republic. Its interior includes gilded statues and an altar of white marble, with recently renovated painted walls and well-integrated signage.

Visits are short, around 20 minutes, and entry is free, but opening hours are limited to two windows a day, morning and early evening. A market often runs on the square outside, giving a local-food stop nearby.

Reviews

The enormous JZP Catholic Church appears to be modernist but in reality was opened in the 1930’s. Just amazing to look at, but the interior and service are something special.
