Discover the Basilica of St. Ludmila, the twin-towered neo-Gothic landmark of Vinohrady. Walk up from Peace Square to admire the sculpted portal, step inside, and sit in the quiet park around the church.

📖

Full description

Standing above Náměstí Míru in Vinohrady, the Basilica of St. Ludmila is a neo-Gothic church designed by Josef Mocker and built between 1888 and 1892.

Its two tall bell towers and sculpted portal dominate the square, and the interior is still used for regular Sunday Mass with a mixed-age congregation. The surrounding park and benches make it a pleasant stop in their own right, and the location is only about ten minutes on foot from the main train station.

A short 20-minute visit is enough, and entry is free, so it fits easily into a walk through Vinohrady.

Reviews

Wonderful cathedral featuring stained glass and gothic style exterior. This is located in Prague near the centre of town. It's great to visit for some quiet prayer or contemplation as well as seeing the gorgeous painted interior. There is also a shop where you can purchase prayer cards of just about any saint you…
