Igreja do Carmo

4.5 ·

Discover Igreja do Carmo, the baroque church famed for its tiled side wall. Explore its interior and the sliver of a house squeezed between it and its twin church.

📖

Full description

Igreja do Carmo is one of two adjoining churches, separated by a very narrow building known as the Hidden House, and is best recognised for the blue-and-white tiled panel covering its side wall. Inside, a baroque interior can be explored in detail, and a visit includes areas not usually opened in churches, such as the tiny house between the two buildings, which shows how people once lived there.

A visit takes about 30 minutes and requires a modest ticket. It sits in the heart of the historic centre.
