Fonte dos Leões

4.6 ·

Stop at Fonte dos Leões, the lion-guarded fountain at the heart of old Porto. Admire the octagonal marble basin and bronze lions, then wander the tiled streets around the square.

📖

Full description

Fonte dos Leões is an octagonal marble fountain with four imposing bronze lions, installed in 1886 as part of Porto's public water supply project. It stands in a lively square in the historic centre, where flowing water and the sculpted lions create a busy yet relaxed atmosphere.

Surrounding streets are lined with tiled buildings typical of the city. The fountain is free to view at any hour and a stop here usually takes about 15 minutes, easily combined with nearby churches and a walk through the old town.

Reviews

Porto is a gem of a city. The people are super relaxed and extremely friendly. I can't wait to go back to this magical place with beautiful architecture and tastefully tiled buildings.
