Monument aux Morts de Rauba-Capeù

4.7 ·

Pause at the Monument aux Morts, a solemn war memorial cut straight into Castle Hill's cliffs. Take in its sheer scale from the coastal path, then continue towards the harbour.

📖

Full description

Built into the rock face at the foot of Castle Hill, the Monument aux Morts de Rauba-Capeù commemorates the people of Nice who died in the First World War. Its scale and the way it is carved directly into the cliff leave a strong impression, and visitors find it moving yet peaceful, surrounded by tall trees and views.

It sits on the coastal walk towards Port Lympia, on a side of the city with fewer tourists. Open around the clock and free to visit, it suits a short, reflective stop on a seafront stroll.

Reviews

Moving and grand! The Monument aux Morts is an incredible piece of architecture carved right into the cliff. It's a very powerful place to stop by while walking along the coast. The sheer scale of it is breathtaking. Definitely check out my 360° photo to see how it dominates the shoreline!
