Head up to Fort du Mont Alban, a clifftop fortress between Nice and Villefranche-sur-Mer. Walk or drive to the ridge and take in the sea and mountain views from the park.
Full description
Fort du Mont Alban is a military stronghold from the 16th century set in a park on the ridge between Nice and Villefranche-sur-Mer. Visitors say the fort itself is not open inside, but the views over the sea and surrounding peaks justify the trip.
Options for reaching it include a bus followed by a walk, driving, or a hiking route up from Villefranche over loose rocky ground. The grounds are open roughly 9 AM to 6 PM, and a visit typically takes an hour including the approach and time at the viewpoints.

Reviews
The castle wasn't open to visitors, but the view alone made the trip absolutely worthwhile. We took the bus and then continued on foot, although you also have the option of driving there. To be honest, the main reason to visit is the breathtaking panoramic view, and it definitely doesn't disappoint. I highly recommend…
