Au-Haidhausen

Cross the river into Au-Haidhausen, where tree-lined squares and French-named lanes give Munich a softer, more intimate side. Wander between Wiener Platz and the quiet streets nearby, then settle in at a bistro for the evening.

📖

Full description

Au-Haidhausen is the borough that unites the Au and Haidhausen quarters on the east side of the Isar. Haidhausen is best known for its leafy squares, such as Wiener Platz with its small market, and for the lanes around the Französisches Viertel, where streets carry French names.

Cafés, bistros and wine bars fill the evenings, while the Gasteig cultural centre and the river add a cultural and green side. The mood is residential and unhurried, which makes it a favourite for couples looking for a relaxed walk and dinner outside the old town.
