Colonne di San Lorenzo

4.4 ·

Stop at the Colonne di San Lorenzo, where Roman columns stand in the middle of modern Milan. Admire the sixteen marble pillars in front of the basilica and join locals relaxing on the square.

📖

Full description

The Colonne di San Lorenzo are sixteen Corinthian marble columns, each about 7.5 metres tall, thought to come from a Roman temple or public building of the 2nd–3rd century. They stand in front of the basilica on an open square where locals gather, giving a striking contrast between ancient stone and the lively surroundings.

Because the site is open around the clock, it works for a daytime pause or an evening stroll. Visitors suggest grabbing a snack or coffee nearby, and a quick look takes about 15 minutes.

Reviews

Open place, locals chill there, beautiful sight of the old collons left in the middle of city. Take a snack and coffee and have a short pause here. This street starting from tram stop has good small stores for middle class ( :)) shopping, great leather bag store, some grunge/metallist/goth accessories and clothes…
