📖

Full description

Puerta del Sol is the busy modern centre of Madrid, a large square surrounded by well-known buildings and dotted with statues. Its best-known feature is the clock whose chimes mark the New Year for Spain.

The square is open at all hours and free, and because it is a major crossroads it is full of people throughout the day. A typical visit is short, around fifteen minutes, often as a stop between the surrounding streets and nearby historic sights such as Plaza Mayor.
