Step into La Venencia, a 1930s tavern in Madrid's Centro lined with wood casks and dusty bottles. Sip from five varieties of sherry alongside rustic tapas in a bar that has barely changed.

📖

Full description

La Venencia is a Madrid institution, a tavern dating from the 1930s with wood casks, dusty bottles and an unchanged look. It serves five types of sherry with rustic tapas, and reviewers describe a charming, old-school place where orders are taken in traditional fashion and payment is in cash.

It suits a short stop of around 45 minutes, whether a lunchtime aperitivo or a relaxed nightcap. Reviews of service vary, but the sherry and atmosphere are the draw.

Reviews

We came here for a nightcap. It was one of the every few bars that was open around 1 in this neighborhood. There is other nightclubs around there that were open, but we wanted something relaxed just for a night cap and this was the perfect spot.
