Housed within a beautiful historic townhouse, it offers an outstanding collection of art, furniture, armour, porcelain and decorative arts in surroundings that are every bit as impressive as the exhibits themselves. What struck me most was the quality and variety of the collection. One moment you’re admiring masterpieces by world-renowned artists, the next you’re standing in front of an extraordinary display of historic arms and armour. The armour galleries in particular are fascinating and among the finest I have seen anywhere in the UK. During my visit, the museum was also hosting a temporary exhibition of Winston Churchill’s paintings, which added an interesting extra dimension to the experience. Unlike many of London’s larger museums, the Wallace Collection feels calm and intimate. The layout is easy to follow, the galleries are spacious, and there is none of the rushing or overcrowding that can sometimes detract from the experience elsewhere. It allows you to slow down and properly appreciate both the collection and the magnificent building that houses it. The interiors themselves are stunning, with lavish decoration and elegant rooms that make you feel as though you’ve stepped back into another age. There is also a pleasant café situated in the covered courtyard, providing a perfect place to relax during your visit. Overall, the Wallace Collection is an exceptional museum that deserves far more attention than it receives. Whether you’re interested in art, military history, architecture or simply beautiful places, it offers something for everyone. One of the best museum experiences in London and somewhere I will happily return to."
