Cafe Cecilia

4.5 (545)$$ · Mid-range

Cafe Cecilia sits quietly on the Regent's Canal in Hackney, and reviewers consistently describe it as cosy rather than showy — a simple room built around a short, confident menu and a well-chosen wine list. Dishes like the mince on fried bread show a kitchen more interested in getting comfort food exactly right than chasing novelty, and the canalside setting makes it feel like a proper local even for visitors. Rated 4.5 from a smaller but enthusiastic review base, it works well for a solo lunch, a casual dinner, or a relaxed date. It's mid-range on price, which keeps the mood unpretentious even when the cooking is anything but simple.

What people say

"Had a fantastic solo lunch at Café Cecilia today. Started with the mince on fried bread with horseradish crème fraîche, which was rich, comforting and full of flavour. For the main, I had the onglet with peppercorn sauce and chips – perfectly cooked, incredibly tasty and exactly the kind of dish that reminds you why simple food done well is so satisfying. To finish, I tried the Guinness bread ice cream, which was unique, balanced and a great way to end the meal. The food was excellent throughout, the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, and the service was attentive without being intrusive. A wonderful lunch and a restaurant that fully lived up to its reputation. I’ll definitely be back."
