Graça

Climb up to Graça, the hilltop neighbourhood that gives Lisbon some of its best views. Walk its steep lanes past azulejo facades, then settle at the Senhora do Monte miradouro as the city catches the evening light.

📖

Full description

Graça is a hillside district east of the centre, higher and quieter than neighbouring Alfama, with a stronger local, residential character. Its main draws are the miradouros, notably Senhora do Monte and Graça, which open wide views over Baixa, the castle, and the Tagus.

Between them run steep lanes, small squares, azulejo-decorated buildings, and tascas that serve mostly neighbourhood regulars. Tram 28 climbs through it, which makes arrival easy though the surrounding streets are steep.

It rewards slow walking and sunset timing, when the viewpoints fill with locals and visitors.
