St. Andrew's Church, Kraków

4.7 ·

Visit St. Andrew's Church, a Romanesque survivor from the 11th century on Grodzka Street. Examine its thick fortress-like walls and baroque steeples, then step inside to see the organ and church interior.

📖

Full description

St. Andrew's Church is one of the oldest churches in Poland, built in the late 11th century as a conventual church for the Order of Saint Clare.

Its thick stone walls reflect a dual role as house of worship and fortification. The facade mixes stone types, and baroque steeples were added later.

Inside are a convent and an 18th-century organ. It sits on pedestrian-only, cobbled Grodzka Street and takes about 15 minutes to visit.

It suits travellers who want to see Romanesque architecture rather than the Gothic and Baroque styles found elsewhere in the Old Town.

Reviews

This Romanesque Catholic conventual church of the Order of Saint Clare was built between 1079 and 1098 by a medieval Polish statesman Palatine Sieciech. It sits on the pedestrian only cobble stone road to the Oldtown.
