4.6 ·

Slip into the Turkish & Islamic Arts Museum, a peaceful 16th-century palace just steps from Sultanahmet's crowds. Admire ornate carpets, ceramics, glassware and illuminated Korans across rooms that feel far from the tourist bustle.

📖

Full description

Housed in the historic Ibrahim Pasha Palace beside the Hippodrome, this art museum opened in 1983 and gathers ceramics, carpets, glassware, sculpture, stone sarcophagi and manuscripts, including richly illuminated Korans. Reviewers describe it as one of Istanbul's most beautiful and underrated museums, and a calm alternative to the crowds at the nearby Blue Mosque.

The collection is strong enough for dedicated art and history lovers, while the palace setting adds atmosphere. An hour covers the main galleries at an easy pace.

Reviews

Will worth a visit. There are some incredible sculptures which i felt were worth the visit themselves. There are some of the most beautiful stone sarcophagi I've seen. The artwork in the Koran is breathtaking. Coin collection was extensive but not my thing. Am sure you'll find something inspiring.
