Climb Rumeli Fortress, the Bosphorus stronghold raised by Mehmed II in 1452. Walk its towers and walls for sweeping views over the strait, and judge the restored stonework for yourself.
Full description
Rumeli Fortress was built by Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II in 1452 on a hillside beside the Bosphorus, and is a well-preserved hilltop fortress with multiple towers, walking paths, and water views. Reviewers praise the setting and the walls, though some note that interior buildings have been under restoration, so expectations are best kept modest.
Walking the ramparts involves some climbing, and a visit typically takes around an hour. It is closed on Mondays and charges a modest entrance fee, though museum card holders may enter without extra cost.

I love a castle but currently it's a little disappointing. The view from outside is great as it sits on the hillside right next to the bosphorus. It has been heavily renovated but the walls and the turrets are still out of bounds. You are therefore restricted to wandering inside. Hopefully in future it will all be…
