Kamondo Stairs

4.5 ·

Climb the Kamondo Stairs, a curving art nouveau staircase tucked into Galata. Pause for photos of its sweeping balustrades, then continue uphill through the neighbourhood toward Galata Tower.

📖

Full description

Kamondo Stairs is an elegant double staircase from the 1870s, commissioned by the Ottoman banker Abraham Salomon Camondo and rising from Bankalar Caddesi toward the upper streets of Galata. Its curving, ornamented design is considered one of the city's most photogenic corners, and it links neatly with the walk up to Galata Tower.

The stop is brief, usually about 15 minutes, and it is open at all hours. It can get busy with photographers during the day, so early mornings give the calmest conditions for a visit.
