Fatih Mosque

4.8 ·

Climb the hill to Fatih Mosque, a landmark of Istanbul's most traditional district. Spend half an hour in its courtyard and spacious prayer hall, admiring the domes and twin minarets in a calm, local setting.

📖

Full description

Fatih Mosque sits on a hill in the district that bears its name, a neighbourhood that locals describe as traditional and lived-in rather than tourist-oriented. The 18th-century rebuilding gives it a central dome supported by four semi-domes and flanked by two minarets.

Visitors consistently note the calm atmosphere and the generous interior space, which stays peaceful despite the building's size. Entry is free, and a half-hour is enough to look around the courtyard and prayer hall.

It suits travellers who want to see an active neighbourhood mosque with strong architecture and a local feel.

Reviews

Amazing to visit such an amazing leader and historical figure. There's definitely a different aura in this place. The mosque itself is beautiful and the calligraphy and colours inside the mosque is wonderful. His tomb is in the vicinity. They're doing some restoration around the area but his tomb is still accessible.
