Explore Yedikule Fortress, a seven-tower stronghold with a dungeon and a place in Constantinople's ancient walls. Climb a tower, walk the ramparts and look out toward the Golden Gate over an hour or so.
Full description
Yedikule Fortress, built in 1458, is a seven-tower fortress attached to the old walls of Constantinople and known for its royal dungeon, which held many well-known prisoners. Visitors can walk around the fort and climb one of the towers for views, and the nearby Golden Gate and walls show how formidable the defences remain.
Signage gives history, and entry is reasonably priced compared with other famous sites. Reviewers note that many rooms are bare and dimly lit, so it rewards those who enjoy walls and towers over displays.
Expect about an hour, and note it is closed on Mondays.

Took a quick trip here to see the famous Golden Gate and walls of old Constantinople. It was well worth the visit to see how formidable the walls and towers still are to this day. You could easily imagine riding up to these walls and gates. The battle of 1453 must have been terrifying and it was also easy to imagine…
