Fortezza da Basso

4.4 ·

Wander around Fortezza da Basso, a Renaissance fortress that now doubles as one of Florence's busiest event venues. Circle its walls, visit the neighbouring park with its pond and fountain, and see which exhibition is on.

📖

Full description

Fortezza da Basso is a sixteenth-century fortress on the northern edge of central Florence, repurposed as a venue for trade fairs, concerts and conferences. Inside, separate buildings host events that sometimes run simultaneously, while the exterior walls can be circled on foot in a pleasant loop.

Visitors mention a relaxing park section with a pond, ducks and a rock-spring fountain, giving way to more urban surroundings further along. It sits next to the Strozzi-Fallaci park and tram stop, and some areas have been under construction.

It is a low-key, local-feeling stop rather than a tourist set piece.

Good to know

  • take the tram to the Strozzi-Fallaci stop next door.

Reviews

Looks pretty cool outside but currently have areas under construction (maybe in preparation for the jubilee next year). Separate buildings inside where multiple events are hosted (sometimes simultaneously). Very accessible with stops for the bus and the tram just outside the entrance.
