Borgo San Iacopo runs one block back from the Arno on the Oltrarno side, close to Ponte Vecchio, squeezed between medieval stone towers and later rebuilt buildings. It mixes trattorias, small boutiques and an 11th-century Romanesque church, giving a cross-section of Florentine history in a short stretch.

Visitors note it gets very busy with pedestrians, cars and motorcycles, so slow strolling can be difficult. A honeymooning couple praised the hospitality of a restaurant here, and local dining is the main reason to stop.

Rated 4.6 and best for a lunch or dinner stop, with around 75 minutes suiting a meal.
