Badia Fiorentina - Monastero

4.7 ·

Slip into Badia Fiorentina, a working abbey tucked just off Florence's busy centre. Admire the Baroque nave, wander the two-storey cloister, and take in the quiet that the resident community keeps.

📖

Full description

Badia Fiorentina is a monastic church founded in 978 by Willa of Tuscany, later dressed in Baroque fabric over a Gothic core. Its tall, narrow bell tower is one of the recognisable shapes in the central Florence skyline.

Inside, the nave and the art-filled interior sit alongside a two-storey cloister that offers a quiet pause from the busy streets outside. The abbey remains home to monastic communities, and vespers are sung there in the evenings.

Reviewers describe a calm, courteous atmosphere and a courtyard worth lingering in. Entry is free and a visit is short.

Reviews

Really a nice church and courtyard. I happened to be walking by in the early AM and the gentleman was very kind to allow me to enter and appreciate the courtyard and church.
