The Palmerston

4.5 ·

Settle into The Palmerston, a classic Edinburgh restaurant built around a daily-changing menu of regional produce. Order the set courses, share soft sourdough with butter, and try dishes like lamb loin with lentils or monkfish.

📖

Full description

The Palmerston is a traditional restaurant with old-fashioned decor and a menu that changes daily around area-sourced produce. Reviewers single out soft sourdough with generous butter, tender lamb loin with lentils and well-cooked monkfish, while one diner found the food short of its reputation, so expectations are worth tempering.

A 2-3 course menu is on offer, and some guests choose to sit at the bar. With a 4.5 rating from over 1,000 reviews and mid-range pricing, it suits a relaxed lunch or dinner for couples, older travellers and locals who like a seasonal, matter-of-fact approach to cooking.

Reviews

The sourdough bread is very soft and they are generous with the butter, really good. The lamb loin with lentils was excellect. Tender juicy meat. The monkfish was also very well cooked. Coffee was good and so was the chocolate chip cookie (soft chewy kind). Can't find anything bad to say about this place.
