St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral

4.7 ·

Discover St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral, the soaring Gothic landmark many visitors walk straight past. Step inside to take in the scale of the nave and, with luck, catch the choir rehearsing.

📖

Full description

St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral is a Gothic cathedral designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, its tall spires dominating the skyline of the West End. Reviewers say it is often overlooked in favour of St Giles' on the Royal Mile, yet it rivals it for scale and beauty inside.

Daily choral services mean visitors can sometimes hear the choir rehearsing for Evensong. Entry is free and a visit takes around 20 minutes, though more if you stay for music.

Reviews

My friend and I were passing when we noticed this amazing Church was open. Once inside we were told that the choir was practicing for Evensong. It was nice to hear them sing as we visited. There was a guide on duty and he telling us the Cathedral was designed by George Gilbert Scott and dedicated in 1879. It was nice…
