📖

Full description

Gladstone's Land is a tall tenement on the Royal Mile, first bought in 1617 by a prosperous merchant and now furnished to show how such a household lived. Floor by floor the rooms reflect different periods, and the building's past as shop and home is part of the story.

Visitors take a self-guided route through the interior, supported by friendly and knowledgeable volunteers and staff, according to reviewers. It is compact and unhurried, usually done in about 45 minutes, and suits anyone curious about everyday life in old Edinburgh beyond the castle and palace.

Reviews

Looking throughout the building is very interesting. It's steeped in history and was used for different commercial premises thoughout the years. The volunteers and staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They give you a brief history in each room. Would recommend anyone to looking around and then having a cuppa and cake…
