Duck into the Irish Film Institute in Temple Bar for an afternoon of independent cinema. Catch an arthouse screening, then linger over a drink in the bar or on the covered terrace.

📖

Full description

The Irish Film Institute is a three-screen cinema in the middle of Temple Bar, programming arthouse, independent and international films. Beyond the screens it has a restaurant, café, bar, bookshop and film archive, plus an outdoor terrace with awning and seating.

Regulars describe a good crowd and relaxed atmosphere, though one review notes that Screen 3 feels a little shabby with less comfortable armchairs. Wine and popcorn are on offer for screenings, and prices are budget-friendly.

It suits solo visitors and film lovers wanting an unhurried cultural afternoon or early evening.

Reviews

I’m kind of resident of IFI (going there once or twice a week) so probably biased. For true cinema lovers. Three screens. Good crowd and atmosphere. Screen 3 little bit shabby, armchairs are not comfortable, little space for legs so sometimes it feels like being on Ryanair flight.
