Slip into Thorvaldsens Museum, a canalside neoclassical building that doubles as Bertel Thorvaldsen's resting place. Stroll three bright floors of sculpture and antiquities set in elegant, atmospheric halls.

📖

Full description

Thorvaldsens Museum sits beside the canal in central Copenhagen and is built around the burial place of neoclassical sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen. Its three well-lit floors display his sculptures and a wider collection of antiquities, and reviewers praise the thoughtful presentation, friendly staff and good facilities including lockers for backpacks.

The neoclassical halls are atmospheric enough that the museum is also used for ceremonies and events. A visit takes around an hour, making it an easy, elegant stop for art and sculpture lovers exploring the centre on foot.

Reviews

Fantastic wedding ceremony location in the historic museum of antiques surrounded by neoclassical sculptures, classical musicians, family, friends & love. We hosted an intimate ceremony in long room followed by a drinks reception on the steps in front of Christiansborg.
