Church of Holmen

Pop into Holmens Kirke, a 17th-century church facing Christiansborg Palace. Study the carved oak altarpiece and pulpit under the barrel-vaulted ceiling, and linger if the organ is playing.

📖

Full description

Holmens Kirke is a parish church on Holmens Kanal, directly across from Christiansborg Palace. Inside, a carved oak altarpiece and pulpit sit beneath a barrel-vaulted ceiling, and outside the spire and clock face stand out in the streetscape.

Entry is free, and a visit takes about half an hour. Reviewers mention walking in on organ playing, which added to the atmosphere, so a visit can coincide with music.

It suits travellers who like quieter historic interiors near the central sights.

Reviews

A nice piece of architecture and an interesting site to walk around and appreciate when in the area. There is a nice spire and clock face on this building.
