Postal Savings Bank

4.4 ·

Seek out the Postal Savings Bank, a quirky Art Nouveau building with a vivid tiled roof. Stand on the opposite side of the street to study its patterns and ornament.

📖

Full description

The Postal Savings Bank, designed in the early 20th century by Ödön Lechner, is celebrated for its distinctive architectural expression within a city rich in notable buildings. Its most striking feature is the colourful tiled roof, best seen from a nearby rooftop bar across the road.

The interior is largely closed to the public, a point some reviewers regret given its quality as a national masterpiece, so the visit is mostly an exterior one. It rewards architecture enthusiasts and works well as a short stop on a walk through the Lipótváros area.

Reviews

I'm only evaluating the building, which is very beautiful. To have the view on the tiles, go to the hotel rooftop bar, across the road
