Hospital in the Rock

4.6 ·

Go underground at the Hospital in the Rock, a WWII hospital and Cold War nuclear shelter beneath Buda Castle Hill. Join a guided tour through the preserved wards, corridors and bunker rooms.

📖

Full description

Hidden in the cave system under Buda's Castle Hill, the Hospital in the Rock served as a wartime hospital and later as a Cold War nuclear shelter. It is visited by guided tour only, and reviewers praise the preserved rooms and the respectful way guides handle difficult subjects of war and oppression.

Waxwork displays and original equipment bring the corridors to life. The experience is unusual and well regarded, so tours fill up, and booking ahead is the safe approach.

It fits visitors interested in the darker, practical side of 20th-century history.

Reviews

Museum tour is very informative , short and controlled. Taking photographs inside the museum is not allowed. I had done advance booking online. This is good to do as there is a certain number of people allowed to enter the museum in each hour.
