Seek out Gül Baba's Tomb, a rare Ottoman monument tucked into the hills of Buda. Step into the small exhibition, then stroll the rose garden for quiet city views.

📖

Full description

Gül Baba's Tomb is a restored Ottoman monument on the quiet Rózsadomb hillside in Buda, dating from the 16th-century Turkish period. The octagonal tomb holds a small exhibition covering the Ottoman occupation of Budapest, Gül Baba himself and the building's history.

Outside, a landscaped memorial garden includes roses, a cafe and open views over the city. The atmosphere is calm and contemplative compared with the busier central sights.

It suits visitors interested in Budapest's Islamic heritage who do not mind a short uphill approach, and the site is closed on Mondays.

Reviews

Very cool piece of history. The tomb and surrounding area is very nicely developed with a cafe, rose garden, and beautiful views of the city. It's also in a very convenient location although it is a bit hidden from the main traffic. Highly recommend if you're in the area!
