Step inside Belgium's national church, the Cathedral of St Michael and St Gudula. Walk the Gothic nave, admire the stained glass, and see where the country's royal ceremonies take place.

📖

Full description

The Cathedral of St Michael and St Gudula is Belgium's national church, the setting for royal weddings and funerals, and a prime example of Brabant Gothic architecture. Its history traces back to a small chapel in the 9th century, and today visitors admire its soaring interior and large stained-glass windows.

It stands on a hill in central Brussels, free to enter, and long opening hours make it easy to fit into almost any itinerary. Around 30 minutes covers the nave, windows and main details, with more time rewarded if you enjoy Gothic architecture.
