Wilmersdorf sits alongside Charlottenburg as one of former West Berlin's quieter, wealthier residential areas, characterized by grand Wilhelmine and Art Nouveau apartment buildings along wide, tree-lined streets. It has relatively few standalone tourist attractions, functioning more as an upscale backdrop of embassies, private schools, and leafy squares like Fehrbelliner Platz. The Rüdesheimer Platz area has a small, distinctly non-Berlin wine-village theme, complete with a Rhineland-style fountain, a quirky historical curiosity. Most visitors experience Wilmersdorf in passing en route to Charlottenburg or the Grunewald forest rather than as a destination itself.
