Neukölln

Neukölln has long been one of Berlin's most ethnically diverse districts, shaped by waves of Turkish, Arab, and more recently international immigration, and it retains that mix along Sonnenallee's Middle Eastern bakeries and shisha bars. Over the past fifteen years it's also become one of the city's most gentrified nightlife areas, with Weserstraße and the streets around Reuterplatz filling up with cocktail bars, vintage shops, and a young, international crowd priced out of Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain. The tension between old and new residents is still visible and often discussed by Berliners themselves, giving the neighborhood a rawer, more contested feel than more settled trendy districts. Tempelhofer Feld, the former airport turned enormous public park, sits on its northern edge.
