Moabit

Moabit is technically an island, ringed by the Spree river and the Berlin-Spandau Canal, and its relative isolation has kept it under the radar despite sitting just north of the Tiergarten and Berlin's government quarter. It's traditionally been a working-class, industrial area, home to the Tiergarten criminal court and the Arminius Markthalle, one of Berlin's oldest covered markets, still selling fresh produce and street food. In recent years quieter streets and the area around Ottopark have started attracting young families and small cafés priced out of Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg. It remains one of central Berlin's more residential, low-key districts, worth a visit mainly for the market hall or a canal-side walk.
