Berliner Ensemble

β˜… 4.6 (2,565)$$ Β· Mid-range

Berliner Ensemble carries direct historical weight as the theatre company founded around Bertolt Brecht, and it continues to stage his best-known works, including The Threepenny Opera, in the same tradition of politically engaged, formally inventive theatre he championed. Reviewers who count themselves longtime fans of Brecht's plays describe the experience as marvellous, helped by English subtitles that make the German-language productions accessible to international visitors. An 88 culture score and 4.6 rating reflect that literary and historical pedigree, though a few reviews mention poor ventilation making longer performances uncomfortable. It suits travelers with a specific interest in Brecht or German theatre history.

What people say

"Marvellous experience ! Been a fan of Bertolt Brecht's plays for years. Yesterday we saw the 3 Penny Opera at the Berliner Ensemble. They had English subtitles so we were able to understand the Germany performance and enjoy the experience of seeing a live theatrical version in German. The actors were amazing, full of energy even in the 34 degree heat. It was worth coming to Berlin to see this play. Everything else had been the cherry on the top. If you like Bertolt Brecht, come see one of his plays here. You wont be disappointed"
