Reasons to go

  • The museum occupies a genuine WWII air-raid shelter at the former Anhalter Bahnhof, spanning 6,500 square metres across three floors.
  • Its centerpiece exhibition, "Hitler – How Could It Happen," walks visitors through 38 themed areas covering his rise to power and the war.
  • A reconstruction of Hitler's personal study forms part of a display tracing the events leading to his 1945 suicide in the Führerbunker.

Full description

Set inside a genuine WWII-era underground bunker, the Berlin Story Bunker traces 20th-century Berlin and German political history in dense, thorough detail, with an audio guide that reviewers warn can easily stretch a visit to several hours if followed in full alongside the information boards. A 4.7-star rating and strong must-see and culture scores mark it as a favorite particularly among visitors with a serious interest in modern political history, including students studying the period.

Reviewers with limited time consistently say two hours wasn't quite enough to do it justice. It suits a properly unhurried visit rather than a quick stop squeezed between other sights.

Reviews

Best museum of our stay. Be warned, if you follow the audio guide all the way round, as well as stopping to read the info boards, you can easily spend hours in here. I would definitely recommend a visit. You can't take photos or videos once you're inside. It isn't a suitable museum for children
