Park Güell

Commissioned by industrialist Eusebi Güell in 1900 as an English-style garden city for Barcelona's elite, the development failed to attract buyers and was eventually converted into a public park, leaving only a couple of houses, including Gaudí's own former home, from the original plan. Its trademark mosaic-tiled serpentine bench, the tiled salamander at the entrance, and the hypostyle hall of columns are all made using Gaudí's signature trencadís technique of broken ceramic tile. The main monumental zone requires a timed ticket, while the surrounding hillside gardens remain free to wander, offering sweeping views over the city and out to the sea. It suits visitors who enjoy a mix of architecture, art, and open-air walking.
